Real questions. Honest answers.
Everything people actually ask before signing up — covered in plain language. If your question isn't here, email matt@reffed.ai and I'll add it.
The basics
What is AI search and why should I care?
When someone asks ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or Google AI "best plumber near me" or "what's the best CRM for a small team," they get one answer — not a page of links. If that answer mentions a competitor instead of you, you don't get a click. You don't even get to compete.
AI search visibility is about being the business AI assistants recommend. The earlier you start, the bigger your head start over competitors who haven't realized this matters yet.
How is this different from regular SEO?
Traditional SEO is about ranking high in Google's blue links. AI search is about being the source AI assistants name in their answers. Different signals, different rules.
The good news: most of what helps with AI search also helps with regular Google. You don't have to pick. Reffed's audit covers both.
Does the free audit actually do anything useful?
Yes. The free audit gives you your overall AI search visibility score, the top 3 things to fix on your site with the reasoning behind each, a teaser showing which AI assistants see you best and worst, whether AI bots can read your website, and an estimate of how likely AI is to mention you when a customer asks about your category.
The full per-engine breakdown across all 6 assistants and the deep mention check details are part of Reffed Watch. No signup or credit card needed for the free audit — run it on your site right now from the homepage.
How long until I see results?
Some fixes show up in AI assistant responses within 1-2 weeks (after they re-crawl your site). Bigger changes can take 4-8 weeks. AI assistants don't update their knowledge in real time — they re-index periodically.
Watch is designed to track this gradual improvement for you so you don't have to guess if things are working.
Will I definitely show up in ChatGPT and Claude after I fix everything?
Honest answer: no — and any tool that promises this is lying.
Two different things drive AI mentions. Technical readiness (what your Reffed score measures) is the prerequisite floor: if AI crawlers can't read your site, you have no chance of being cited. Brand authority is the second piece: backlinks, press coverage, community discussion, time in market.
AI assistants were trained on the open internet and weight authority heavily — that's why big brands get cited even with imperfect technical setup. Fixing your technical floor makes you eligible to be cited and dramatically improves your odds, but you also need authority signals that build over months.
Reffed gives you the technical readiness in a weekend; the authority compounds over time as you publish content, earn backlinks, and get mentioned elsewhere. Both matter.
My site already gets mentioned by ChatGPT sometimes. Why isn't my score 100?
Your Reffed score measures whether your site is technically ready for AI assistants to cite — schema markup, content depth, crawler access, citation-friendly structure. Existing mentions usually come from brand authority you've already earned (backlinks, press, social proof).
Big brands like Linear, Notion, and Stripe get cited despite low technical scores because their authority is enormous. Smaller businesses don't have that buffer — they need the technical floor done right to compete.
Fixing your technical issues protects the mentions you're already getting (so they don't dry up as AI engines get pickier) and unlocks new mentions you're currently missing because the signals aren't readable.
What kind of businesses see the biggest lift?
Local service businesses — plumbers, dentists, lawyers, contractors. AI assistants are wide open for local recommendations right now, and most competitors haven't started optimizing yet.
B2B software companies — buyers research with AI before contacting sales. Being cited inside that research often closes deals before you even know you were in consideration.
Content-heavy sites — blogs, comparison sites, niche media. AI assistants love depth and reward it with citations.
Reffed specifically
What's the difference between the free audit and Reffed Watch?
Free shows your score, top 3 fixes, and a 2-engine teaser. Watch ($59/mo) unlocks the full per-engine breakdown across all 6 AI assistants with engine-specific notes (not just your best and worst), the full mention check breakdown including which category we detected, the sample prompt we tested against, the reasoning, and which competitors are more likely to be cited — plus the full crawler access detail per bot and the llms.txt recommendation.
And it reruns the whole thing every Monday morning automatically, emailing you the score change. The free audit gives you a teaser snapshot. Watch is the full picture, every week.
What's the difference between Watch and Watch+Fix?
Watch ($59/mo) runs the weekly automated audit and emails you the score change. It tells you exactly what to fix. It's live today.
Watch+Fix ($249/mo) includes everything in Watch plus the plugin that will fix problems for you on WordPress, Shopify, and Webflow when it opens. Watch+Fix is in early access — join the waitlist; it's not purchasable yet. The free audit you can run anytime (no signup) is also live. We're being upfront because it matters.
How is Reffed different from Otterly, Profound, or other AI search tools?
Three real differences:
1. All 6 AI assistants checked. Most competitors check 3 (ChatGPT, Perplexity, one Google product). Reffed checks all 6 including Claude, Gemini, and Microsoft Copilot.
2. Watch+Fix will fix problems for you. No competitor under $150 does this. It's in early access — join the waitlist.
3. We're priced for small businesses. Most competitors start at $79-$199 and scale to $989. We start at $59.
Do I need to be technical to use Reffed?
No. The audit and Watch reports are written in plain English with clear next steps. When Watch+Fix opens (it's in early access — join the waitlist), the plugin will install in one click — no code to copy-paste, no developer needed.
Will this work on my Wix / Squarespace / Shopify site?
The free audit and Watch work on any website regardless of platform.
The Watch+Fix auto-fix plugin is in early access — join the waitlist. When it opens it will start with WordPress, Shopify, and Webflow. Wix and Squarespace support depends on what early customers ask for. Email matt@reffed.ai if you want to vote.
Pricing and billing
Why $59/mo for Watch? Other tools charge $99+.
Because we built the audit once, and re-running it weekly costs us under $3 per customer. We're keeping a healthy margin and passing the rest of the savings to you.
Other tools charge more because they have sales teams and bigger marketing budgets. We're solo-built out of Vancouver, BC — so we can be cheaper while doing more.
Will prices go up?
Our pricing is flat — $59/mo for Watch and $249/mo for Watch+Fix. No founding tiers, no countdown timers, no "lock in now before it goes up."
If we ever change retail pricing as the product matures, existing subscribers keep the price they signed up at. So whatever you pay today is what you keep paying.
Do you offer annual pricing?
Yes. Watch: $590/year (saves vs monthly — basically two months free), available now. Watch+Fix: $2,490/year — this opens when Watch+Fix comes off the waitlist (early access, not buyable yet).
Is there a free trial of Watch?
Yes — the free audit IS the trial, just a thinned version of the Watch report. You see your score, top 3 fixes, and a 2-engine teaser. If that's useful, Watch will be much more useful (full per-engine breakdown across all 6 assistants, deep mention check, weekly reruns). If the free audit isn't useful to you, Watch won't be either — so try free first.
Watch also comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee on top of that. Don't like it, email us, we refund. No questions.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. One click in your dashboard. No retention call, no "are you sure" loops, no hidden cancellation fees. We don't make leaving harder than joining.
What if I have multiple websites?
Each subscription covers one website. If you run multiple businesses, each one needs its own subscription.
Email matt@reffed.ai if you want to bundle 3+ sites — we'll work something out.
What payment methods do you accept?
All major credit and debit cards through Stripe. Apple Pay and Google Pay work on supported browsers. For annual plans we can also do ACH transfer if you're in the US — email us.
Reffed Academy
What is Reffed Academy?
Reffed Academy is a training and certification program for Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) — the practice of getting cited by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, and Copilot. It's a separate product from the audit tool, operated by the same team, so every lesson is grounded in real data from real client work.
Three tiers: Foundations (free, 5 lessons, 45 minutes), Quickstart ($147 founding, 26 lessons across 6 modules, ~5 hours), and Certification ($747 founding, 12 lessons plus a 60-day capstone with a real client). Browse the Academy →
Who is Reffed Academy for?
Three audiences. Marketing leaders inside businesses who want to build GEO competence in-house. Consultants and freelancers adding GEO to their service mix. Agency teams adopting GEO as a new service line.
Most learners come from existing SEO, content marketing, or digital marketing backgrounds. No prior GEO experience is required — Foundations gives you the landscape in 45 minutes.
Do I need to take Foundations before Quickstart?
Foundations is recommended but not required for Quickstart. Quickstart assumes basic familiarity with the GEO landscape, which Foundations provides in 45 minutes of free content. Most learners do Foundations on a Tuesday evening and start Quickstart the next weekend.
Certification requires completion of both Foundations and Quickstart first.
What does the Certification capstone actually look like?
A 60-day GEO engagement with a real client, following Reffed Academy methodology. Documented deliverables include the baseline audit, a 60-day priority action plan, technical implementation evidence, content production, off-page work, monthly reports, and a final case study with measurable outcomes.
Reviewers grade the submission across four dimensions: methodology adherence, execution quality, results documentation, and written communication. Pass earns the Certified GEO Operator credential plus listing in the public Operator Directory.
What if I'm not satisfied with the courses?
Quickstart includes a 14-day money-back guarantee, no questions asked.
Certification includes a 30-day money-back guarantee before the capstone phase begins. After capstone work starts the guarantee no longer applies, because real client work can't be undone.
Can I find a certified operator to do GEO work for me?
Yes — the Operator Directory lists every certified operator by niche specialization, location, and pricing tier. The first cohort graduates in Q4 2026. Most operators charge $3,000 to $15,000 per month on retainer, with audit-only engagements from $5,000 to $15,000.
Choose by niche first — specialists outperform generalists. The directory has 12 niches including B2B SaaS, professional services, healthcare, e-commerce, and local services.
Is there an affiliate program?
Yes. Reffed Affiliates pays 30% recurring commission for 12 months on every referral. Certified operators are eligible for a 40% Partner tier. Cookie window is 90 days. Payouts are monthly via Stripe Connect once you cross the $100 threshold.
Open to anyone — no follower count requirement, no audit period. Sign up, get your slug, share, get paid.
Trust and privacy
What's your data policy?
Your audit data is yours. We don't sell it, don't share it with third parties, and you can delete everything at any time. We use Stripe for payments (we never see your card details) and standard infrastructure (Supabase, Vercel, Resend) that's used by thousands of SaaS companies.
