Why review aggregators amplify vertical authority
Review aggregators occupy a distinctive position in AI citation. Unlike Wikipedia (which provides entity facts) or Reddit (which provides unscripted opinion), aggregators provide structured opinion at scale — hundreds or thousands of user ratings with consistent dimensions (ease of use, customer support, value, features). AI engines retrieve aggregator data heavily for two specific query types: "what do users think of X" queries and category-leadership queries ("best X" or "top-rated X").
The 2025 AI Visibility Report identified G2 as one of the most-cited domains for B2B SaaS recommendations across ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. The pattern holds in adjacent categories: Capterra and Software Advice for software, Clutch for services agencies, TripAdvisor for hospitality, Yelp for local services. Aggregator presence acts as third-party validation that AI engines trust precisely because the platform owns the verification (reviewer accounts, verified-buyer badges, anti-manipulation systems).
A brand with strong aggregator presence but weak own-site content can still get cited as a category leader. A brand with strong own-site content but absent from aggregators is consistently passed over for "best X" recommendations even when the underlying product is superior.

If you're in B2B SaaS, prioritize G2 above everything else. The investment-to-return ratio is the strongest of any aggregator. If you're a services agency, Clutch's verified-reviews model is the single most-trusted signal in your category for AI engines and human buyers alike.
Step 1: claim and complete your listings
Most brands have aggregator listings they don't know exist — auto-generated profiles created by the platform when their product first got mentioned. Audit before doing anything else:
- Search each relevant aggregator for your brand name.
- If a listing exists, claim it through the platform's "claim this listing" flow.
- If no listing exists, create one.
- Complete every profile field. Sparse profiles are downweighted by the aggregator's algorithm AND by AI engines retrieving from them.
The fields that matter most for AI citation:
- Company description (write it for AI extraction — claim + specific differentiator + target customer)

Step 2: getting reviews systematically
Reviews are the substance. Most brands fail at this step because they treat review acquisition as a one-time campaign rather than a systematic process. Three working approaches:
The customer-success-triggered approach
Build review requests into your customer success workflow at the moments when satisfaction is highest. Common triggers: first month anniversary, first major outcome achieved, NPS score of 9-10, first contract renewal.
The mechanics: when a trigger fires, your customer success team sends a personalized email with a direct link to the aggregator's review form. Include a one-paragraph guide on what makes a useful review (specific use case, what they tried before, what changed).
The campaign approach
Run a quarterly review-request campaign to all active customers. The email frames the ask as community service ("help other [category] buyers make informed decisions") rather than help to you. Offer a small incentive that complies with aggregator rules — G2 explicitly permits gift cards via its own incentive program (G2 Track) but prohibits brand-direct incentives.
The reciprocal approach

When in doubt, do not incentivize. The downside of getting caught (visible transparency warnings, listing removal) far outweighs the upside of marginal review velocity.
Responding to reviews
Every review — positive or negative — should be responded to publicly. Response patterns:
- Positive review: Brief, personalized thank-you. Mention one specific thing from the review. 2-3 sentences.
- Negative review with valid criticism: Acknowledge the issue, describe what you're doing to fix it, offer to follow up privately. Never get defensive. AI engines weight handled-criticism responses positively — they demonstrate maturity.
